As you may have guessed, Edge Lit TVs use lights along the perimeter of your TV, while Full Array televisions have multiple zones throughout the display and, and Direct Lit TVs, like Full Array TVs, have LEDs placed throughout the back of the television (but fewer of them). At this point, the technology may seem similar—lights are placed Sony X90L/X90CL. The Sony X90L is a mid-range 4k TV released in 2023. It replaces the Sony X90K/X90CK and sits above the entry-level Sony X85L and budget models like the Sony X77L/X77CL. Unlike the higher-end Sony X93L, it doesn't feature a Mini LED backlight but instead has a full array local dimming backlight. Euro TCL MiniLED TVs are also catching up to the US branch, as the C825 should be somewhat comparable to the US 6 series, but it still has only 125 zones IIRC. Sony X90K/X90CK. The Sony X90K/X90CK is an upper mid-range 4k LED TV released in 2022. It sits above the Sony X85K and below the Sony X95K, and it's Sony's lowest-end model in 2022 to feature a full array local dimming feature. It's powered by Sony's Cognitive Processor XR for motion and picture processing.

This is where local dimming steps onto the scene to enhance the contrast ratio of LED-backlit LCDs. Local dimming is available on both direct-lit (full-array local dimming), and edge-lit LED displays. So, there are four different types of backlights in total: Direct-lit with Global Dimming (no local dimming)

The LED portion refers to the backlight, whereas the LCD part of it refers to the actual pixel layer. Full Array means that it has a local dimming system, and the backlight is divided into a grid (array), and the TV can dim individual zones to increase contrast. Not all Full Array TV's have local dimming. This isn't universal, but generally QLED is LED-LCD but with a Quantum Dot panel for better colors and brighter screen. If you are going to be in a dark room, OLED is always the way to go. If not, then QLED is the better option, but only if it has FALD. 12. keithian.
